I have my project ready to make the gerber files and noticed I did not add mounting holes. Can I do it by just going to the edge cuts layer and adding the holes or must I do something else?

Yes, you can just add the mounting holes on the edge cut layer but make sure to rebuild the copper pour if you have any.
