Parallel Wire Impedance
Computes the characteristic impedance, distributed inductance, capacitance, and propagation delay of a two-wire parallel transmission line from wire separation, wire diameter, and relative dielectric constant.
Inputs
Centre-to-centre separation between the two wires in millimetres
Diameter of each wire in millimetres — must be less than wire separation
Relative permittivity of the surrounding medium — air: 1, PTFE: 2.1, polyethylene: 2.3
Results
⚠Wire diameter must be greater than zero
Inductance—nH/cmDistributed inductance per centimetre in nanohenries
Capacitance—pF/cmDistributed capacitance per centimetre in picofarads
Parallel Wire Impedance—ΩCharacteristic impedance of the parallel wire line in ohms
Propagation Delay—ps/cmPropagation delay per centimetre in picoseconds
